Guan-Hong Lu: View from My Window

“My work focuses on creating layered narratives and ambiguous contexts, with a playful twist when misinterpretations arise. I often bring together different scenes and characters, creating differences that are sometimes intuitive and visual, and other times tied to the misplacement of cultural contexts. This approach allows me to construct intricate, open-ended narratives while sneaking in a touch of personal mischief. “

Nunu Fine Art New York is pleased to present View from My Window, a solo exhibition by Taiwanese painter Guan-Hong Lu. This exhibition marks the second presentation in our recently inaugurated Project Space.
Inspired by an online movement that emerged during the pandemic, the exhibition reinterprets shared digital experiences through Lu’s reflections on Taiwan’s social dynamics. Each piece acts as a metaphorical "window," blending surreal imagery, cultural contradictions, and playful mischief to reflect the dissonance of confinement and connection.
Through intentional misplacements, Lu’s works pose questions about the media's role in shaping narratives. By examining the processes of creating and consuming images, he reveals how meaning can be distorted, misinterpreted, or even lost, yet can simultaneously give rise to something unintended and thought-provoking. He intertwines a sense of richness with banality, inviting viewers to see the essence of everyday life from alternative perspectives.
In this media-saturated age, where the concept of “truth” has been flattened into a two-dimensional vista viewed “outside the window”, Lu’s artworks prompt reflection on how the mundane mirrors our global perceptions. His works encapsulates the absurdity and tension of living in an era of contradictions—fragile yet resilient, connected yet distant. He investigates the unreliable nature of representation, highlighting how the media and cultural systems often distort information, rendering misinterpretation inevitable.
At once joyful and devastating, funny, and tragic, View from My Window examines how images, both their visual layering and interpretation, can challenge how we understand our evolving world. Ultimately, Lu’s work invites us to question whether these reflections reveal profound truths or simply point to the emptiness at their core.
